Football speaker, manager and ex-England player Andy Sinton began his playing career as a schoolboy; playing for the England under 15’s and going on to play for England at International level. A career which saw him make 684 professional appearances and play for a number of teams, Sinton has many experiences to share as a football speaker.
Before retiring and establishing himself as a sports speaker Sinton spent his career playing for numerous British teams up and down the country: beginning at Cambridge United, Sinton broke a record at the club becoming the first member of their youth team to graduate and achieve full England international colours. During his time at Cambridge, Sinton made his first league appearance for the club aged just 16 becoming the youngest player ever to play at league for the club.
As Sinton grew his talent and career developed and he soon found himself needing to find a new club in order to progress with his own career. He went on to play for more well-known clubs such as Sheffield Wednesday and Queen’s Park Rangers. His Queen’s Park Rangers career consisted of 161 appearances and scoring 22 goals before making his then club record breaking £2.75 million transfer toSheffield Wednesday.
Now a manager of professional teams and a prolific football speaker, Andy Sinton is perhaps best known for his time spent at North London club Tottenham Hotspur; alongside this Sinton went onto achieve 12 caps for England, playing and scoring in a number of high profile international games.
Sinton is a notable after dinner speaker not only for his eclectic professional career but also for the longevity of his playing career; Sinton did not retire and become a full-time football speaker until 1992 after playing for Wolverhampton and Burton Albion, when he was well into his forties.
It is not just this aspect of his career that makes Andy Sinton a particularly interesting sports speaker, as a manager Sinton has worked with both Telford United AFC and Fleet Town, in a managerial career that lasted 8 years and previously worked as the club’s football development officer at Fleet Town too.
Having worked on both sides of the changing room, Sinton has a rare and fascinating insight into the inner workings of football, team cohesion and player confidence. Sinton’s extensive and prosperous career led to his former team, Queens Park Rangersappointing him as a Club Ambassador as a mark of respect and gratitude for his services to the club, this appointment further emphasises Andy’s extremely respected stature within the game.
