Legendary football speaker, Arsène Wenger OBE is a French football manager and former player. He has been the manager of Arsenal since October 1996, becoming the club’s longest-serving manager and the most successful in terms of major titles won.
Born in Strasbourg and raised in Duttlenheim, Wenger was introduced to football by his father, the manager of the local village team. Preceding his time as a dedicated football manger and speaker, Arsène Wenger OBE played for a number of European football clubs including RC Strasbourg and French team Mullhouse along with several other amateur clubs; After a modest playing career, Wenger obtained a manager’s diploma in 1981. Following a short period at Nancy which culminated in 1987, Wenger joined AS Monaco; the club would go on to win the league championship in 1988.
In 1991, Wenger guided Monaco to victory in the Coupe de France, before his departure from the club in 1994 in search of a new challenge. He briefly coached Japanese J.League side Nagoya Grampus Eight, which won the Emperor’s Cup and Japanese Super Cup during his Wenger’s time in charge.
In 1996, Wenger was named manager of Arsenal an appointment that would lead to an incredible journey. Just two years after his appointment the club completed a Premier League and FA Cup double before repeating the feat by winning another league and cup double in 2002 and also retained the FA Cupa year later.

In 2004, Wenger managed Arsenal to an undefeated league season, a feat last accomplished by Preston North End, 115 years previously. Arsenal also went on to eclipse Nottingham Forest’s record of 42 league matches unbeaten. After a period of nine years without a trophy, which coincided with the club relocating to the Emirates Stadium, Wenger guided Arsenal to further FA Cup success in 2014, 2015 and 2017.
